May Last Friday Art Walk Last Friday Art Walk celebrates May with a strong line-up of talented artists ready to share their work for the third month of this season’s walk. Visitors can also get a touch of history as costumed players from the Mary Blount Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution stroll through downtown Maryville, visiting the businesses and artists. Fine Arts Blount, 106 E. Broadway, will chalk one up with an interactive Kid’s Corner. The children and teens will be invited to do chalk art during the walk, a preview of FAB’s chalking project, Chalk the Walk, on June 7. In addition, Broadway United Methodist Church will lead the kids in making pom pom shooters and have kid-friendly games. The Blount County Public Library, which isn’t always able to be open during Art Walk, is hosting a Doctor Who Party as a kick-off for the Teen Summer Reading Program. Costumes are encouraged for watching Doctor Who in the Sharon Lawson Room. The party is from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Last Friday Art Walk is from 6 to 8 p.m., with some venues offering “after hours” entertainment to extend the evening. Here is the schedule of participating businesses and artists: Blount County Public Library – Doctor Who Kickoff For teens, the library will kick off the Summer Reading Program with a Doctor Who party. Costumes are encouraged for this special event. The library is closed to regular patrons, so teens can enter outside the Sharon Lawson Room door at the employee parking lot beginning at 6:30 p.m. Boyd Thomas Clothing – Alex Rodriguez Boyd Thomas will showcase the iconic work of painter Alex Rodriguez. Broadway United Methodist Church – Games and music Broadway UMC has a fun craft for the kids, games and music in the parking lot. The kids will be making pom pom shooters. Brackins Blues Bar – Romeo Kings Blues group Romeo Kings cranks it up at Brackins at 6 p.m. Clear Silat – Missy Lynch Clear Silat will feature the portraiture art of Missy Lynch, who will demonstrate her drawing techniques. Corner Café – culinary treats Corner Café will stay open for Last Friday Art Walk for guests to sample their culinary treats. Dandy Lions – Tina Brunetti artwork Tina Brunetti calls her whimsical art work Confetti art. Come see her eclectic collection. Fine Arts Blount – Bridget Matlock and the Fiber Art Chicks The fiber art of Bridget Matlock and her Fiber Art Chicks take center stage this week. Kids Corner – at Fine Arts Blount Hosting the children this month are the artists at Fine Arts Blount. The kids will do chalk art painting and learn more about the upcoming June 7 Chalk the Walk event. La Rues – Gloria Nelson La Rues is hosting an oil and acrylic artist Gloria Nelson. Preservation Plaza – Paint the Town art Check out Preservation Plaza to see what wonders come from the Art4Parties participants. Many are for sale and affordable. Roost – Sarah Webber The creative landscapes of Sarah Webber, who works in oils, fit in perfectly with the beautiful décor at Roost. Come see how to make art work in your home. Studio 212 – Maryville Intermediate School art show Studio 212 will give guests a chance to see what the future of art in Blount will look like as they host the winners of the Maryville Intermediate School art show. Come support the budding artists. Vienna Coffee House – Studio 212 Art Student Exhibit Studio 212 Art Student Exhibit is just one of the goodies at Vienna Coffee House. Also on display is the work of eggshell artist Sherry Kennel, the Hanna Harper Exhibit and the Elton John Exhibit. Missions Place – TEAM open house The TEAM at Mission’s Place is welcoming guests to check out their space and learn more about their work at this month’s art walk.
