Maybe it is the recent birthday (#54); or the eye of a Hurricane while on a coastal island; or the death of a dear friends father; or the excitement and anticipation of another 4th of July, but for whatever reasons, I am feeling very reflective this morning and feel the need to share just a few thoughts: God has blessed us so richly in this life, this world, this country, this state. And yet all of us, whether we want to admit it or not, take the beauty, the miracle of life and nature, and the gifts all around us for granted way too often. The fury of a storm reflected in wind and rain reminds us that destruction can and does happen; the death of a loved one reminds us that death is a part of living and that good-byes are so very difficult and heartbreaking; and the birthday of our nation is a reminder that the price for liberty, freedom, and justice for all was and is very costly for those who fight to protect us and keep us free. So as this new day dawns, please take time alone and/or with your family to be grateful, to pick up trash even if it is not yours, to speak and share a smile with those you meet, to always be kind, and thank God for the gift of this planet. And...continue to do these things to infinity and beyond. Happy 4th of July!
