Maybe missionaries shouldnt be left alone with God and a wi-fi connection, but I am, so…...““You believe at last!” Jesus answered. “But a time is coming, and has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”” (John 16:31–33, NIV84) I understand that this is a bit out of context, but maybe not so much. I have been struggling to not be overwhelmed by the onslaught of evil that we see because the world is open to us by media. I dont want to oversimplify but Jesus has overcome the world. His words, not mine! So what can I do in the face of all this evil? I can certainly add my voice, presence and (God help me) even finances to combat the evil in the larger world context. But I must also take heart and live a life that looks like jesus has overcome the world around me. I believe it was St Francis that said something like this, Preach the gospel always, use words if necessary! It is a reality, truth, that we will have trouble in this world, but it is even a greater truth that Christ has overcome the world. He did that with Word and DEED. In the face of the evil that is growing so strong, how far am I willing to go, what price will I pay to honor the price that Christ payed to have already overcome the world? Peace doesnt rest in what I can do, but in what Christ has done.
