Mayor eyes traffic lights in 16 major road intersections ILOILO CITY – Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog here is eyeing the installation of the first batch of traffic lights in at least four major road intersections by re-aligning the city budget of the P15 million fountain project at Plaza Libertad. The historical plaza beside the city hall is currently undergoing improvement and renovations with some P4 million funds from the Department of Tourism-Tourism Infrastructure Enhancement Zone Authority (DOT-TIEZA). The city government has a counterpart fund and Mabilog said the need for traffic lights is very urgent. The traffic light installation will cost about P5 million each and is hopeful for a partnership with the private sector for donation of traffic lights in the remaining 12 road intersections of the city. Mabilog admitted that one major corporation is will willing to donate the traffic lights but carries an agreement of putting up billboard advertisements near the traffic lights. The city mayor said he is scouring for more funds either from the city government or from the private sector so that all major road intersections here will have its traffic lights to direct traffic and pedestrians.
