Here in the city of Pittsburgh, we have laid witness to many sports legends, but then there are a handful of those who have catapulted themselves to ultimate legends. The Pirates Bill Mazeroski is without a doubt one of the shining heroes in this sports town. He is still heralded as a hero fifty-four years later when he crushed his dramatic game winning home run over the left field wall of Forbes Field on October 13, 1960 allowing the Pirates to win the championship crown. Bill Mazeroski, nicknamed Maz, is a former MLB player who spent his entire career with the Pittsburgh Pirates between 1956-72. He is regarded as the greatest defensive second baseman of all-time. Mazeroski is best known for winning the 1960 World Series with a dramatic game ending home run over the left field wall at Forbes Field. It is considered as the greatest home run in baseball history and the only home run to win a World Series game seven. Mazeroski’s #9 was retired by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1987, followed by his enshrinement in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001. steelcityartist/
