McDonalds is doing a special promo asking you to ask questions about the quality of their food. They started off with a video about their meat and the Big Mac. Um, they were only talking about the meat...what about all these ingredients? (Btw, in order to confuse you even more they have rearranged their ingredients making it even harder to find...but I did the work for you.) My question: Do we REALLY need all this? Can you guys count this up? I got overwhelmed after the bun. BIG MAC BUN: Enriched bleached flour (wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), water, high fructose corn syrup, yeast, soybean oil, contains 2% or less: salt, wheat gluten, sesame seads, leavening (calcuim sulfate, ammonium sulfate), may contain one or more dough conditioners (sodium stearoyl lactylate, DATEM, Ascorbic acid, azodicarbonamide, mono and diglycerides, monocalcium phosphate, enzymes, calcium peroxide), calcium propionate, MEAT PATTY: meat, salt, black pepper. Couldnt find what they fried it in. Assuming its vegetable oil which adds the following ingredients: canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil with TBHQ and citric acid, dimethylpolysiloxane. BIG MAC SAUCE: soybean oil, pickle relish (diced pickles, high fructose corn syrup, sugar, vinegar, corn syrup, salt, calcuim chloride, xanthan gum, potassium sorbate, spice extractives, solysorbate 80), distilled vinegar, water, eggs, yolks, high fructose corn syrup, onion powder, mustard seed, salt, spices, propylene glycol alginate, sodium benzoate, mustard bran, sugar, garlic powder, vegetable protein (hydrolyzed corn, soy & wheat), carmel color, extractives of paprika, soy lecithin, tumeric, calcium disodium EDTA. PASTEURIZED PROCESS WHITE CHEDDAR CHEESE: Milk, water, cheese culture, cream, sodium citrate, contains 2% or less of salt, citric acid, sorbic acid, may contain one or more of sodium phosphate, sodium pyrophosphate, sodium hexametaphosphate, enzymes, acetic acid, soy lecithin. PICKLE SLICES: cucumbers, water, distilled vinegar, salt, calcium chloride, alum, potassium sorbate, natural flavors, polysorbate 80, extractives of tumeric ONIONS & SHREDDED LETTUCE (couldnt find out if processed) There you have it. Thats a Big Mac. Does this qualify as food OR a science experiment? Im thinking the latter. Post, usatoday/story/money/business/2014/10/13/mcdonalds-fast-food-food-quality-restauants/17213145/
