Scott Delong) Things are changing fast, at least in the West, and what is most striking is those countries rated lowest for religious influence usually rank most favorably for life expectancy, health care, education, crime and incarceration rates, social justice, and even statistical measures of perceived happiness. Christianity is pretty much dead in Scandinavia, consistently ranked as the most desirable places to live on the entire planet. It is dying in the Antipodes and Western Europe. And even in the USA, long considered a country riddled with religious influence, the Christian Right, once a powerful political force now has little influence. Young people in increasing numbers are rejecting religion while their elderly counterparts, far more inclined to god worship, die off. Sadly the picture is not so rosy in the Islamic world. But with rising living standards, access to social media, and some women at last realizing their value as humans and no longer being willing participants in their subjugation, the secularization process that is gaining momentum in the West could very well occur there. Considering the the history of great periods of social and technological progress ushered in by the Renaissance, the Enlightenment, the Industrial Revolution, and our current Digital Revolution, and noting that each of these changes resulted in a significant lessening of religious influence; continued secularization, even in Islamic societies, seems an historical inevitability. The good guys are beginning to win, the social media are playing an enormous role in this, and I feel privileged to be around to see it. huffingtonpost/nigel-barber/atheism-to-defeat-religion-by-2038_b_1565108.html
