Meaby you have wondered why Sole came in with 4 male puppies? litters of galgas normaly are between 8 to 12 puppies. Let me explain what happens, imagine you are a male puppy: being born galgo in Spain is not easy. Most probably as a male pup you were born in a large litter, most probably you had many brothers and sisters… Soon you will see that your sisters are no longer there…they will be the first ones to be given/sold to the other hunters. They believe it is the best investment. In case you are not a good hunting dog, at least they did not feed you for nothing.is you were a female. Because a female galgo will be able to breed for them litters and litters of puppies. They are worth much more they can hunt and breed. But if you were born male your problems start right in the beginning. Hunters normally have 1 male and 4 female. So what to do with you…. In case the hunter is not evil..you will end up for as a gift. Here your problem continues because you can end up for all sorts of bad things. He can also decide to bring you to the pound where your possibilities to survive are small. It can also happen that you are killed immediately after birth. I better do not explain how you would be killed in the hands of a bad hunter. If you were lucky enough to grow up as a hunting dog by the age of 2 you will end up abandoned in the streets or pound … why you ask yourself? Because so many new puppies were born already and why would they keep you any longer especially if you did not win, you will cost money to feed and shelter…. If you got hurt during the hunt you are the first one to be eliminated. So let’s say you were lucky enough to survive as a puppy, you hunt for your hunter and now it is your turn to be rescued from the pound or streets. Yes finally your luck has changed and now you are in the hands of for example Baasgalgo. Cool you think these people will find me a forever home and you can finally forget about your difficult start…..wrong again do not forget you are a male. What? I hear you saying…why? Out of all the adoptions 75 % of the people prefer a girl…..sorry…yes you might be good, sweet, friendly to everybody, your even good with cats but….since everybody thinks girls are easier ….and you are waiting and waiting…. I hope this is an eye opener for all of you, if you want to adopt a galgo do not overlook the males!!!!
