Media Release: CPS-Vancouver is proud to deliver to you this information that is of interest to the many thousands who use public transit each day. John Beeching Hon. Chair CPS FACTS HANDY DART USERS NEED TO KNOW FACTS: • TransLink has frozen Handydart service levels to 2015 • Trip denials doubled to over 38,000 from 2011 to 2013 • In April TransLink took 10,000 service hours from Handydart and gave them to Taxis in a “Pilot Project” • 28 Full Time Handydart drivers were laid off due to this “Pilot Project” • Taxi drivers do not have the training or accountability that Handydart drivers do. More; because the number of rides directly affects their income they need to make as many trips as possible in a shift. They do not presently see the client from door to door as Handydart drivers do, this increasing the possibility of accidents or falling of the client. Do not blame them! A SUGGESTED PROPOSAL TO ALL TRANSPORTATION USERS: The time has come for all users of transportation, able bodied and disabled, to adopt the unions’ policies of unity – it works. The users of all transportation under TransLink need to unite together to right the wrongs begun under the former Premier Campbell’s rule to those of today. Our demand should be for a “Public Investigation into TransLink and the role of the legislature” that would allow input from all users in addition to information from both TransLink and the Legislature. Once both sides are heard to issue a report with recommendations. The Campaign to “RIGHT THE WRONGS’ need a body with the strength and resources of BC Federation of Labour and BC forum.
