Media Release From: Denise M. Moloney Community/Media Relations Manager, 352-797-3609 Re: Barricaded Subject Situation Resolved Peacefully Date: October 28, 2014 On 10-28-14 at 8:39 a.m., Hernando County deputies were dispatched to 15106 Dusky Warbler Road in Brooksville (northwestern Hernando County) regarding a disturbance. Initial information provided to dispatchers was that a domestic disturbance was occurring at the address and that a firearm was possibly involved. There were no reported shots fired. Dispatchers determined that four individuals were inside the home when the disturbance began (husband, wife, and two children – ages 4 years and 15 years). Soon after the disturbance began the wife fled from the residence, leaving the husband and two children inside. When deputies arrived on scene the husband refused to exit the residence for a period of time. Both the SWAT and Crisis Response Teams (CRT) were called to the scene. While units maintained a perimeter around the residence, they continued to attempt to make contact with the husband via the Public Address (PA) system located in the marked patrol vehicles. During this time, the 15-year-old male child exited the residence to take out the garbage. Deputies immediately took the child into protective custody, debriefing him prior to releasing him into his mother’s custody. Prior to the arrival of SWAT and CRT, the suspect exited the residence with the 4-year-old child. The suspect was placed into custody and the child was reunited with her mother. Derrick Malave W/M DOB/09-10-1977 (the husband) was transported to the Hernando County Detention Center. This case remains active.
