Media Release Palmer vows to stop aged care neglect Federal leader of the Palmer United Party Clive Palmer said today that if elected he would immediately increase funding for senior citizens to allow them to live in dignity and without fear. “Every day we hear of terrible stories of neglect in our nursing homes because there is insufficient staff to take care of people,” Mr Palmer said. “The care of our sick, frail and elderly must be the concern and responsibility of all Australians. “It is an absolute disgrace the way both major parties have neglected this sector. “The Palmer United Party is committed to increasing aged pensions, building more nursing homes and making sure people have adequate help so they can continue to live comfortably in their own homes. “We know there is a desperate need for increased allied health care including home assist, nutrition and transport. “This should not be left to the goodwill of our volunteers, many of whom are elderly themselves. “The Palmer United Party will liaise with and seek input from organisations such as National Seniors and others. “Older Australians make up 47% of the population. This number is growing and their concerns will be addressed by the Palmer United Party. “We are committed to improving the lives of all Australians.” ENDS For further information please contact: Andrew Crook Mb: 0419 788 431
