Medicaid in NC. They dont seem to understand that they do not provide enough assistance for most to get back into a semi-normal life.I am a active RAKA and have to depend on the Graces of My O&P Clinic.Medicaid in NC doesnt pay for a C-Leg{Knee really}. They are only willing to pay for what I consider antiquated parts.Am amputees life would be greatly improved if decent parts were available.Even something as simple as getting a new gel liner can be a struggle.We are allowed two a year.For individuals who try to stay active and live a decent life and I dont just mean people being able to just get up and walk...we want to do other things.I would like a limb that can keep up with daily things...Walking,Being on my knees to play cars with my Grandson,bending or stooping to give my home a deep cleaning..not just a surface clean.I am fortunate that I can drive with no issues and no modifications to our cars.Some are not so lucky.I want to go back to work.As of yet I havent been able to.Either because I have stump tissue break down from an ill fitting liner,or I simple am having difficulty fitting into my leg when I am having horrible phantom pains.I cant stand for long periods of time nor can I sit for long periods.Imagine trying to explain to a potential employer that you would be Bobbing up and down all day like a Yo-Yo.Vocational rehab has been of little use to me.I dont need a ramp,or other home devices as of yet.I know I will..however I expect by that time things will have changed and not for the good of People who are Physically Challenged...I dont like the term Disabled...It makes me feel as if I am not quite a Whole Person.Believe me when I say I am a Fire Cracker..Thats how I want to live my Life.Full of Energy and going out with a Boom.We just need a little more understanding that not all Amputees are the same..I am not a Number on a Insurance Sheet.I am more active so I would like to be able to go and LIVE my Life not just be ALIVE.Having More Outlets Like Support Groups are great.Having A Leg that is State Of The Art would be Perfect.Sorry for the Ranting...I am literally Sore. I have had to wait on Medicaid to approve a new limb and new liners.The old ones have caused Tissue Break down and a lot of PAIN.I have been an Amputee sense 1991 so these things are not new to me...Just frustrating.
