Meet Canaan, a new member of the ACCAs educational team! Canaan is a young red-tailed hawk (hatched in 2012) who came to us from the Canaan Valley. One of our volunteer veterinarians, Jesse Fallon, was on a fishing trip with two of his friends (also veterinarians) when they noticed a hawk near a creek. We joke that she was hurt, so she flagged down a truck full of doctors! They caught the bird and discovered that she was missing the end of her left wing, the result of being shot. Her injuries mean that she cannot fly well enough to be returned to the wild, but her calm disposition makes her a good candidate for education. Shes currently being trained and should make her debut at an outreach program soon. Shes a big, beautiful hawk, and although were sad she cant return to the wild, were honored to be able to provide her with a permanent home! Jesse Fallon Katie Fallon Ashley DeMotto
