Meet Emily D., a former vegetarian and former member of the chronically unwell (manifesting as Thyroid and autoimmune issues). About one year ago she changed her diet to follow Your Personal Paleo Code. In less than four weeks she began noticing positive changes. In Emilys words: When I found out I had Hashimotos and adrenal fatigue, I was chronically fatigued and had many digestive issues. I immediately delved into all the wonderful information and resources on the subjects of thyroid health, autoimmunity, and adrenals, that Chris had to offer. I listened to his podcasts daily as I was also in school to become certified as a Nutritional Therapist Practitioner. My diet changes came next. First, I reintroduced happy meat, as I had been a vegetarian for years. This was emotionally very difficult for me, but finding a farm that I trusted helped in this process tremendously. Next, I gave up gluten. This was a huge deal, and also very difficult. It felt like the biggest obstacle to overcome. But, I immediately felt better digestively, so it was rewarding. From there, I began giving up dairy and eggs, then nuts and seeds, nightshades and coffee, all one by one, when I was feeling ready. I allowed myself time between each transition, so I could adequately replace the newly labelled forbidden food with a delicious, healthy new food, so I never felt left out. I also wanted to keep learning about the whys of the process so I fully understood why I was making these choices. Now, I have found a very manageable version of AIP (I have successfully reintroduced nightshades & a few nuts and seeds) that not only works for me, but that I feel vibrant on. I have had hypothyroid lab results and symptoms for over ten years, and in the past few months, my new normal is energetic and digestively happy. Every change I made was well worth all the time and effort but into it, as I feel like Ive gotten my life back to where it should be.
