Meet Ice and Ilka Both rescued from the horrors of puppy - TopicsExpress

Meet Ice and Ilka Both rescued from the horrors of puppy farming by Many Tears Animal Rescue, both have benefit from the Gift of Sight Fund that the Izzybusy Fund is working to raise money for. When Ice arrived she was bleeding from both eyes! Their stories are told by their foster mum Jennie: Ice and Ilka are nine year old ex breeding bichons. They are beautiful, gentle, loving girls who are now enjoying home comforts. Sadly for both of them their eyes are in extremely poor condition seriously affecting their vision. Ice has been to Rowe Veterinary Referrals for extensive tests and unfortunately surgery is not an option as her eyes are not healthy enough to be operated on. Ice cannot see anything at all, and because the condition of her eyes will only deteriorate and become painful she will be having her eyes removed to ensure she is comfortable long term. Luckily Ice has no idea what is going on and takes everything in her stride even though she cant see. This little girl holds no grudges, asks for very little and greets me every morning with a waggy tail. Ice deserves only the best from now on to make up for lost time and to experience as much as possible. Even though Ice will never see this isnt going to stop this little dog from enjoying every minute of her life from now on. Ilka has already had to have one eye removed because it was protruding due to high pressure. She has now had her stitches removed, is recovering brilliantly and is such a happy little girl. She loves to give kisses and would be cuddled all day so she is a great excuse not to do any house work! In her remaining eye she has quite a dense cataract which is obstructing her vision so we are hoping that she may be suitable for cataract surgery. Cataract surgery for humans is a straight forward operation, whereas for dogs it is much more intensive which in turn means the costs can soon mount up as the aftercare is absolutely vital to give the dog the best chance of seeing post surgery. For example Ilka will have several tests and a couple of consultations to decide if she is suitable for surgery which costs £100 +, followed by surgery if she is lucky which again on average is £1500 + per eye and finally drops post surgery can often be at least five different drops, three or four times a day which is then gradually reduced over the following weeks. Putting a dog through cataract surgery is not a decision taken lightly but for an ex breeding dog with little vision often this surgery gives them a completely new lease of life and the opportunity to see and experience things for the fist time. Watching the dogs discover things and find their way around without bumping into things believe me is priceless! I have everything crossed for both theses girls that they will find their happy ever after homes whether or not they can see. If there is anyway you can help they will be eternally grateful.
