Meet Indy! Chin, one of my rescue dogs discovered Indy during pack walks today. Luckily Chin had snake aversion training and immediately backed away. I caught Indy and have him in a cage for a few days so all of our dogs can be trained to avoid rattlesnakes. This guy is big, probably a good 4 in diameter. After training is complete, Indy will move into the Snake Pit a 6 foot diameter, 8 foot deep hole, safely fenced in with multiple layers. There is an observation deck, and a sunning area for the snakes. I wont kill venomous snakes I find on the property, I will safely relocate them to the exhibit so they wont present a danger and offer a good educational exhibit for students who visit. Thanks to Rebecca Novak for helping me catch Indy. She suggested an Independence Day themed name... and the Indiana Jones connection with the snake pit seemed to make the name Indy fit perfectly! Who wants to get in line to pet him first?
