Meet Jackson Gipe... because sometimes the simplest wish, can be the biggest gift. At age 12, Jackson was diagnosed with Tcell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and admitted to University of Iowa Hospitals on June 26. They started chemotherapy immediately in hopes of remission. His parents were contacted a week later by Make-A-Wish to let them know he was eligible for a wish. They waited a short time for him to feel slightly better to tell Jackson the news. The foundation encourages the parents to let their child be selfish this one time and let them dream big. Well, he wanted a turtle. An $80 Greek Tortoise. His family tried talking him out of it and to think of something more grand but he said Mom, its all I need. He eventually became too critical to have his wish granted and died after 7 weeks of hospitalization and treatment. He never complained. He never asked why me? He taught others to have hope and to be strong even in the toughest moments and to find beauty in all things dark. Make-A-Wish had called to start granting his wish the very night he passed away. Today his family has Jacksons pet turtle with the name e had picked, Yoshi the Tortoise. His simple wish will be with them the rest of their lives and years and years after that. While its easy to get wrapped up in having the perfect Christmas this holiday season, remember Jackson, his simple wish and the happy reminder that not everything has to be big to mean so much. This year we will be making our donation to Make-A-Wish in honor of Jackson who was a cousin of Miss Tinas. Join us on Saturday at NSHS to hear more of his story at 10 am and 1 pm and to see our dancers shine happily in honor of Jackson. A true hero. ♡ #teamjackson
