Meet Stealth, an Appendix QH in Colorado who I worked with on a guest ranch for about 4 years. It was my first night on the ranch and I went out into the pitch black mountain meadow to meet the herd. I was recovering from a long drive from Texas that day, as I sat on a stump in pure exhaustion, wondering why I was not in bed. I recall making a request out loud into the vacant-feeling darkness for a horse to show me how to hear them. I wanted to learn how to communicate with them, more than anything. After a few minutes, I felt a STRONG presence behind me and then a warm breath down my neck. I turned around and all I could see was his star. He stood with me with his nose at my head for quite a while, as the herd surrounded me. His name was Stealth. During his many ups and downs with different lamenesses, he showed me the power of thought and how strongly horses reflect our expectations. As we developed our bond, I learned that Stealth would show me a lame horse every time I had that image in my mind or if I simply felt sorry for him. And when I saw him as perfectly healthy and sound in my minds eye, he trotted completely sound and was totally happy. Stealth was the first to demonstrate that we can influence another beings energy and physical state, just by how we see the situation. If we change our perspective, that gives the other being an opportunity to change as well.
