Meet the cast! Niall Bambrick - Oliver Having been involved in many school productions, Niall took a ten year sabbatical from all forms of theatre only to return in 2012. Niall is currently Treasurer and an active member of KATS Theatre Group. He has appeared in their last three productions playing Jim the Bouncer in Tom Murphy’s “On the Outside”, Lansen in Agatha Christie’s “The Patient” and Ruckley in “One flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest”. He was also involved in Kilkenny Musical Society’s production of “Pirates of Penzance” in 2013. This is Niall’s debut with Watergate Productions. 1) When was your first theatrical experience? My first theatrical experience was in St Canices Primary School in Joseph and his amazing technicolour dream coat. I actually played the same brother 3 times in Joseph. I continued to do a few shows in the CS Secondary but stepped away from theatre for 12 years until I got back into it with KATS Theatre group where I am now the treasurer. 2) How do you deal with nerves or stage fright? I tend to jump around a lot back stage and drink lots of water! This ends up with me having to visit the bathroom quite often! I usually have small roles so its usually ok as I have plenty of time off stage. 3) What other hobbies apart from theatre do you like? Watching sport sport and more sport. I played many sports for years until injury finally took its toll. I have 2 young children so obviously they take up most of the free time I have. 4) What was your most favourite character to play? My favourite character to play was Ruckley in KATS version of One flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. I wasnt supposed to be part of the show but when this role came available I asked the director could I have the part. Some people have said that playing a mental patient who has had a lobotomy wasnt much of a stretch for me! 5) Why do you think the people of Kilkenny should go see theatre? Local theatre in Kilkenny has never been as strong in my opinion. KATS, KMS, Devious Theatre and of course Watergate Productions are really providing local audiences with top class theatre. Add into the mix touring companies like Keegan Theatre who return this year and we really are spoiled for choice.
