Meet the problem-solvers who are changing South Africa, one app at a time. This morning at the Ericsson Application Awards, we honored Sowertech, a South African tech startup whose Afta Robot app was developed at m-lab, a World Bank incubator for mobile technologies. Every day in South Africa, 15 million people take taxis. Many people rely on taxi services and minibuses as essential transport, but taxi supply is concentrated in the urban centres, while some of the people who need them most wait up to two hours on the outskirts of the cities. AftaRobot connects taxis and the customers who need them to get to work, and helps taxi companies manage their fleets. Sowertech received our special Technology for Good recognition because AftaRobot is a great example of an innovative solution for communities where technology can make a real difference. We will establish a scholarship in their name for a Connect to Learn scholar in sub-Saharan Africa. ow.ly/x69s0
