(Meeting I wrote for work) The 4 Keys To Your GOALS Everyone has a dream. Right? What is it? So we all have dreams.The steps to reaching them are your goals. The 4 keys to your GOALS- the 4 requirements to reach any goal you have, doesnt matter what your working on, you need to have.... •a great attitude •the energy •clarity •and focus What some of you might find out today is that theres something missing. Theres something missing in at least 1 of the 4 keys thats preventing you from making the right progress towards your goal. Like- •without the right attitude- attitude is 100% of what we do! attitude is •knowing and deciding that you can do it. •Its having a positive attitude because a positive attitude opens you up to possibilities when your working towards your goal. Without the right attitude you get stuck. --------------------------------------------------- •without energy- you need the energy to go strong and to go hard and to maximize the most out of you time. You need.... -physical energy -emotional energy -intellectual energy Without energy you get stuck. --------------------------------------------------- •without clarity- clarity is knowing what the ends going to look like before you get started. If youve been having trouble getting to your goal clarity is something you want to work on. Often times guys what holds us back is not.... •Lack of motivation •Lack of inspiration •Laziness. Often were just not clear on what it is were trying to get to. Having a clear outcome is necessary. Without clarity you get stuck. --------------------------------------------------- •without focus- focus is huge! Theres so many things that can take our attention. Theres so many demands that we have that are placed on us. Theres so many things that are competing for our •time •our money, •and our energy that if you dont have the ability to really narrow your focus what will happen is you will have great intentions starting the week out, but by the end of the week you will not have moved anything forward in your life. Without focus you get stuck. --------------------------------------------------- So.... •your attitude •your energy •your clarity •your focus Were gone talk about how to manage those things proactively so in a week you can move things, forward. --------------------------------------------------- Before you can actually begin to work on reaching your goal you have to know what it is you want to get to. So the big question is in the next 7 days of your life, will you move closer to or further from the attainment of your big goals and ultimately your dreams. --------------------------------------------------- No standing still! Theres no standing still! You may have intentional moments of stillness to collect yourself, but AT SOME POINT YOU MUST DO! And what you do will move you in a direction the question is where. FORWARD or BACKWARD? Heres the question you ask yourself in the mirror everyday- What amazing thing can I do today to take me one step closer to my dreams? You need to figure that out and write it down. Write your goals down everyday so that your day has purpose! Even if you already have them written down! THAT is how you make progression towards your goal. One step at a time! --------------------------------------------------- One step at a time Remember... Goals that are worth it arent achieved instantly, you chisel away at them little by little: thats how you find gold. You never give up! Jay Dunn told me a story 3 feet from gold Man worked very hard mining to try and find gold and he gave up and sold the land to someone else who went down there, mined for just 3 more feet, and found gold. Im going to tell you, when you hit your goal for the week your rewarded, its like striking gold. --------------------------------------------------- Heres the question- what do you want? What do you want? It is obtainable! Always have 3 things •a personal mission (what is your mission) •a vision (what is your vision) And •a 90day goal(what is your 90 day goal? 90 days is one fourth of the year and is a terrible thing to waste! 90 days is a quarter of a year. always have a 90 day goal! Always) -then you simply take that 90 day goal and break it down into 30 day goals -and then take your 30 day goals and break them down into weekly goals -be productive and chisel away at your weekly goal --------------------------------------------------- Your goals become powerful, when they have a number in them. You have to be specific with your goals. Sometimes people announce their goals and they say things like •my goal is to keep it consistent •my goal is to work hard •my goal is to become a trainer. #when listening to people say that stuff I always think to myself that persons goal would be a lot more powerful if it had: •a number which makes it measurable and •and a date which gives it a deadline. for example -my goal is to finish the week with 40 Deals or -I want to become a trainer by the 31st of this month make sure your goals are measurable with a number and have a deadline with a date. That makes them powerful --------------------------------------------------- Your goals are only alive, when they appear in your daily activity There are two types of goals you can set 1) a result goal 2) a performance goals -a result goal is 30 deals for the week -the performance goal is, how do I get there? Again, performance goal is how do I get there? I get there by setting the pace everyday. 5 deals or more. Its more important to have my goals show up on a consistent basis then it is to go out there and do 30 in a day. I know a lot of people sayin- Twon you crazy thatll be the best thing ever! You could take The rest of the week off you could do 100 deals that week -let me make sure I clarify what I mean so that yall dont misunderstand. This is a big mistake that a lot of ppl make, and. It makes them get too comfortable. When you reach result goals as an event--- (what I mean by that is•you get lucky •or something happens in your favor •Or you just somehow had amazing success very suddenly) ---thats what I mean by an event. When you reach your result goal as an event, you never develop the habit and the discipline that will help you to sustain that goal over time. When you reach your result goal as an event you cannot sustain that because it wont happen very often, and/or, it can wear on your body, what you need to develop is the habit of setting the pace or lets just say working on your goal. The habit! And thats why its very important to understand that your goal is only alive when it appears in your daily activity. --------------------------------------------------- So when I want to go over with you is THE 4 KEYS TO REACHING YOUR GOAL 1)ATTITUDE -one of the things Ive learned thats key is that its better to start your day the night before. Our morning routines for the most part are fixed. They are very set. There is a good chance that you are doing the same exact thing. You grab the towel off of the same towel rack it was on the day before. You find your toothbrush in the same holder that it was in the day before. Everything is very set with your morning routine. You can introduce things to it to change it slightly, but its always better to start your day the night before. And the one thing that you want to do the night before is decide your attitude in advance. Instead of just waking up and seeing what the day has to offer, write it down decide what your attitude will be in advance. I dont think Jay Dunn wakes up and says ok lets see how today goes No! He makes the choice everyday to be successful. Heres a quote attitude is a choice you have to make early in the day, and often every day! So make the choice in advance. What will your attitude be? How will you feel when you wake up. We talk about PMA positive mental attitude in a very general way, but to each his own, for some people it means something very different than it does to others. I know a lot of people who are some of the most negative positive people ever. And I bet you know someone like that also. They appear to be or want to appear to be positive individuals but when you really talk to them you find out that they are not as positive as they appear to be there quite negative. You have to decide in advance what your attitude is going to be. Positive attitude is about whats expected. When you have PMA it means you expect a positive outcome, your expectations are positive. PMA is really just thinking you can. Because sometimes when things get really tough thats the only thought that you can afford to have in your head, is I can! You might not even be able to answer the question, how? But making the statement that you can do it, is whats most important. Thats the key piece to your attitude. •You want to be open •you want to be happy •you want to be alive •you want to be compassionate and strong. What changed my attitude was a conversation I overheard. I heard some very powerful words, --whether you know it or not you should choose your words very carefully because words are very powerful. We know that saying sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt thats true but that doesnt mean words dont have power. Ray Mcfarland says be careful what you say, because YOUR listening that can change your life if you write it down. Words mean a lot to me, Im kinda a word guy.-- Anyway. The person in the conversation had done something I guess that didnt produce the result the other person wanted. And she said I looked at the facts and I decided that this is what I was going to do So lets rephrase: (I looked at the facts and I decided thats what Im going to do) I thought about that because most people use terms like I thought it was the best thing to do I believed it was the best thing to do I felt it was the best thing to do -------there comes a time when you can stop thinking, feeling, and believing and just decide. That this is what it is. Try it. its powerful thinking in those terms. Its not I feel like Im going to have a good day, you decide to have a good day. Its not I think Im going to have a good day or I believe I can, its that youve decided that you can do it. Think about that in terms of your attitude. Write it out in advance. How are you going to feel in the morning when you wake up, how are you going to feel through out your day. You can just write down one word Joyous Great Understanding Confident Reliable Liberated Rhino Find a key word whatever it is and decide your attitude in advance --------------------------------------------------- 2)ENERGY Make a commitment to your energy level. There are a lot of different beliefs on energy out there but what I have found is that Your energy comes down to just three things. Your energy is most affected by •The amount of sleep that you get. •The food that you eat •The exercise that you have throughout the day Your Energy does not come from a red bull or monster or coffee. Although you can get energy out of a can or cup, but to really begin to maintain your energy in a sustainable fashion, it comes down to •The amount of sleep that you get •Your nutrition •Your exercise So decide that in advance. As you plan your week these are things that you decide tonight for tomorrow. But you do it every day after that because these are the things that are going to allow you to live your goals throughout this week. So, how much sleep are you going to get tonight?, then you just repeat that throughout the week. Make a commitment to eight hours of sleep and then begin to structure your day around getting those 8 hours. It will be a very wise investment! NUTRITION What are you going to allow in your body throughout the day? Certain foods drain your energy, certain foods increase your energy. Im not a nutritionist but there are plenty of websites and resources out there that you can use to make better decisions on what you eat. EXERCISE Make a commitment to exercise and do something to physically exert yourself throughout your day. For those of us that still knock doors. Enjoy it its healthy. --------------------------------------------------- Thats managing your attitude and managing your energy. Again attitude just decide how youre going to feel in advance. Manage your energy by in advance, committing, to seven or eight hours of sleep, your nutrition and your exercise. --------------------------------------------------- 3)Clarity To get clear, simply write out a summary of your day in advance, make it as great as you want to make it and then live it out as great as you wrote it. This is a truly amazing thing Ive begun to write out my day in advance at night i draft out how Im going to wake up, how Im going to feel, how Im going to get through my morning, what Im going to get done and when you look at your weekly goals this is where you want to write them in at. This is where you want to write them in because what will happen is that now youre consciously structuring your time, your day, and your life around that goal. This is called your statement of clarification- write out your day in advance, lay that out with a clear outcome and a clear picture of what that looks like, what that process looks like. Think about your life as anything else, you invest time in the planning and you will get a huge return on it! Most people live by default! meaning they just wake up in the morning and they just go into the day. We must try as much as possible to live by design.... Its necessary when trying to do something that youve not done before or accomplished before. Because your default mode is what youve already and always done, its your old habit. To create a new habit, to create A new pattern and to introduce those things that are a part of your big goal, it requires a lot of design. It requires a lot of design. You can live your life by design or default. Andrew Morgan said You cant break out of a rut by accident. your either forced out by circumstances or you work your way out by design. Thats very true. But thats what were talking about designing the tomorrow that you want. So thats clarity. Make a note write it down. Write out your day in advance, Script it out make it as vivid as you want. use all the bright colors. And make the picture as absolutely clear as you can. What youre doing is simply beginning with a clear sense of the outcome. This is one of the places and areas were most people get stuck, they just wake up and jump into it. Try this out for the week it will have an incredible impact on what youre able to accomplish. Try it out it really works. Lastly we have focus. --------------------------------------------------- 4)FOCUS Focus is easy. Focus is not a matter of concentration as I see it. Focus is really a matter of elimination. You have to begin to eliminate things that are distractions from your life. And as a daily goal what I like to do is identify three things that Im going to eliminate from my life. And theyre not big things. Im not talking about Im going to go clean out the garage or Im going to rearrange my house, or go clean out the attic. Im talking about just three simple things that youve identified as a distraction that youre going to get done. •It could be the pile of papers on your desk, •it could be some stuff in your closet that youve been meaning to go through and throw out but you havent, •it could be old email messages that you have that need to be cleaned up and thrown out. The way that you increase your focus is by eliminating distractions. The reason that I encourage you to choose three things and only three things each day, is because you then can develop or you will develop the habit of elimination. Again remember what I said events are one thing but events dont make lasting changes. Its what you do every day that will create change over time. And thats what you want to focus on. So focus is just a matter of identifying three things tomorrow that you will eliminate. So real quick review on what weve talked about- So okay the big four In one minute 1)Attitude Decide your attitude early decide how youre going to feel when you wake up. Revisit that note that youve made to yourself when youre going through your day to make sure that youre living it 2)Energy You want to determine and make a commitment to the amount of sleep that youre going to get. The food your going to eat. And the amount of exercise youre going to have each day. And its not a matter of doing a bunch of stuff all at one time, its just a matter of doing |little| things consistently that will make the |big| difference. 3)Clarity Write out your day in advance. Write out your day in advance. Make that narrative, you dont have to be a great writer, you dont have to spell check it, no ones going to see it but you. Write it out in advance. And to get your 4)Focus on Simply eliminate three things from your day each day and you will actually clear your plate to have more focus Thats how you make your goals become reality!
