The Morning Report 6/4/14 The cows and calves have been sold and we think that we did very well. The cow prices were high on the old cows and we got a lot more than I ever thought we would. The calf prices were also high but not as high as they had before a few weeks ago according to folks that were there. I watched a lot of cows and calves go through and will admit that ours may not have been the best ones that went through; they were a long way from the worst that went through. There was one old cow that went through that weighed 795 pounds and sold for $7.95 and I wouldn’t have paid that much for her if she came with a free delivery to our pasture. The prices being the way they were; there were a lot of folks that were culling their herds and getting rid of cows that they didn’t like for some reason or another. It was interesting as usual and if the computers and scales had not been breaking down, it would have been a real good day. Now we get to think about the herbiciding of our hay fields and that hopefully will be done this week or next and Zeb and I will have to start herbiciding Seminole Woods. I’m not really looking forward to that right now because I know that the deer flies are fierce around here and I expect that they will be just as bad there. We will get it done even though there will a lot of bug bites while we do it. They have a large patch of jimson weed there and I believe that I’m going to take out tractor and sprayer there to do that because it will give a better coverage a lot quicker and then when we spray with the 4-wheelers, we can get whatever has been missed and get a complete coverage. I know that I am going to have to make multiple trips there to get rid of that stuff if I ever can, but the war is about to begin. I read about all who are responsible for the problems in the VA (and I’m not sure they are as bad as reported). A lot of folks think that the president is responsible for these problems and I sort of believe that if this is so then we are responsible because we have elected him and all the other folks in congress. I just don’t think that when there is a lower level problem that the ultimate boss has no knowledge of; is responsible for this problem. I really believe that most of these problems (if there really is one) is because the lower echelon supervisors were covering up the problem to make themselves look better. So we fire the big boss and these folks stay working, do you think the problem will be cured? I don’t, it will be just covered up the same as it always has by the same folks. Maybe we need to rethink the way to fix the problem and cure it by getting rid of the ones who caused the problem and the ones who covered it up. Maybe I’m wrong but I know that when I go to the VA clinics, there are signs everywhere that state that they are not the primary care facility. Most of the folks that are patients there are old enough to be on Medicare, so why are they not using Medicare for their problems? I don’t know the answer to that either but I know that our (yours and mine) employees (the elected officials) are always trying ways to cut the budget from everything from the VA to the military and now maybe it has bit them in the butt and they are looking for a scapegoat. Now I could be wrong and everyone we elected is just a pure as driven snow but I sure don’t believe it. I’m staying out of the arguing about the recent released terrorist and the recovered soldier. I would like to hear what he has to say. I would think that if he deserted his post as being reported; the military will prosecute him. We here all of this stuff from the news media and we all know that they would report nothing but the truth and pure facts right? I think we should let it rest until some FACTS are in and then make a judgment. Y’all have a great and wonderful day and remember to take a moment to smell the roses!
