Melatonin is a pretty amazing molecule. It might even help the fight against Ebola. Some researchers at University of Texas Health Science Center noticed a similarity between the effects of Ebola and septic shock and theyve published a very timely paper. They suggest that melatonin may help the body fight Ebola by reducing inflammation and preserving the endothelial lining (the lining of the blood vessels). It also acts as an anti-coagulant, slowing some of the more dramatic symptoms of the virus. Melatonin has already been shown to reduce the death rate of patients in septic shock. The researchers suggest this may be just enough extra time for the patients immune systems to fight off the Ebola virus. onlinelibrary.wiley/doi/10.1111/jpi.12186/pdf
