Melbourne Cup: Here is a photo of the loveley Verema, who sadly had to be euthanased today as a result of a cannon bone (lower leg) fracture sustained during the Melbourne Cup. The stewards report currently does not mention that she was euthanased, only that she broke down severely. Quote: Race 7 – emirates melbourne cup (g1) - 3200 metres: Passing the 2000m Verema broke down severely in its near foreleg and as a result, Voleuse de Coeurs (IRE) and Royal Empire (IRE) which were racing on its inside were hampered and Ethiopia, Sea Moon and Foreteller, which were following were also hampered in consequence.
