Melbourne in for a damp, cool week Ben McBurney, Thursday November 7, 2013 - 09:40 EDT After a relatively warm start to November, Melbourne is set to see cool, wet conditions for the next week, with potential for heavy falls. Friday will be the first of these wet and cool days due to thick cloud, southerly winds and rain areas, keeping the mercury from exceeding the high teens. It will be a day for umbrellas with rain developing during the morning and persisting for much of the day, with widespread falls of 5-10mm and as much as 20mm likely over the region. Throughout the weekend, gusty southerly winds will cause a continuation of the brisk conditions, with maxima in the mid-to-high teens. The good news is it wont be wet enough to ruin most peoples weekend, with only a few light showers likely, although it will be a good idea to take an umbrella if you are heading to Emirates Stakes Day. The start of the working week will see a return to the wetter conditions. From later on Monday rain will begin to increase, with Tuesday likely to be the wettest day of the week. Although there remains uncertainty on how much rain there will be on Tuesday, there is potential for as much as 30-40mm. The thick cloud will also prevent much sun from shining through, with maxima likely to remain in the mid to high teens. From Wednesday, conditions will start improving as an area of high pressure moves over the region, causing skies to become clearer and showers to ease. However, by this time, the Melbourne area is likely to have seen widespread falls of 40-60mm, close to the November average. Temperatures are forecast to be below average from Friday until at least Wednesday, repeating the miserable seen at the of October. - Weatherzone © Weatherzone 2013
