Membership Eruption! We have had a huge influx of new members in the past week or so, and its great to see. I welcome you all! Here, you can ask questions, peruse past posts, look at and download informational files and guides to various subjects and more. Our next in-person meeting is this Sunday, October 19th, in the Ferndale Public Library meeting room. (2007 Cherry Street in Ferndale) Meetings are free, and open to families and friends. Meetings are a great way to meet others with similar interests and concerns, create connections, observe or participate in mini-workshops or demonstrations of relevant emergency preparedness and self-sustainability subjects, explore new gear and products, and so on. In this next meeting, we will discuss scheduling a blacksmithing class offered by an experienced blacksmith and WCP member; scheduling a class on amateur ham radio communication offered by another very experienced WCP member who has been involved with amateur radio for nearly 51 years; learn about navigation with maps and compasses with Mark, discuss an offer of a geology speaker from WWU to talk to us about the 5 active volcanoes in Washington; learn some choices that can be made for gardening as an apartment dweller; talk about WCP mutual assistance group (MAG) developments; discuss Ebola contagion concerns, and more. This next Tuesday, the 21st, some of us are attending the seminar on Mount Baker: The Active Volcano in our Backyard, put on by the Mount Baker Volcano Research Center. It takes place at 7pm at the Ferndale Library, and lasts about 1 hour. I would like to meet some of our new members and those who have not yet been to a meeting. I hope to see you there!
