Membership drive announcement. Please see form at the end! Shipmates, January marked the beginning of your Penn State NROTC Alumni Interest Groups (AIG) third year. From a small group of interested board members in the beginning of 2011, we have grown to an organization of over 250 members, with a Facebook following of over 400. We believe there are currently about 2500 eligible alumni from the NROTC unit at Penn State. This progress has earned the AIG recognition by the Penn State Alumni Association in both 2012 and 2013 for excellence in membership, communication and student support. As we push ahead, we want to find ways to provide value to all members of the Penn State Navy and Marine Corps community. To that end, we are focusing this year on two fronts. First, we want to connect todays Penn State NROTC members with the legacy of the Penn State Navy and Marine Corps Tradition including providing a connection between Penn State shipmates from years past. Our second goal is to support the social and professional activities of the current students and recognize individual achievement. The AIG has met this goal by providing sponsorship of both formal and informal unit activities, by awarding an Officer’s sword at graduation, and by presenting each graduate with the rank insignia for their first promotion. The AIG has tailgated together since 2011 for a selected Penn State home football game. We are committed to making that an annual tradition. The tailgate has provided an opportunity for current and former members of the unit to meet and socialize with each other prior to enjoying the game. Each year, the AIG has received a ticket allocation through the Alumni Associations lottery system. In order to continue to build momentum, we need: • Additional volunteer manpower to organize events • Members who wish to help with key initiatives • You to recruit new members, and communicate with existing members. Your annual NROTC AIG dues directly support these activities and make our support of tomorrows Penn State Navy Leaders possible. We really appreciate your financial support in the past and assure you it is put to effective use. We currently have over 40 paid members and while every graduate of the NROTC Unit is automatically an Associate Member at no cost, paid memberships (just $20/yr) provide the funding support for the activities listed above. If you have just a few hours a year to share with your shipmates, let us know - we would be happy to welcome you. All of our Shipmates (paid members or unpaid members) are welcome to participate in events and planning. The Board of Directors would like to plan a Penn State NROTC Reunion in 2015. Event planners/committee members are needed to organize and promote this event. A membership application is included at the bottom of this email. Benefits of paid membership include priority for events/tickets; discounted costs for AIG sponsored events; and access to query our membership chairman to locate former shipmates. For the Glory!
