Memo to Bono. Check your facts! The Irish people did not bail out the Irish people. They bailed out German, French, and US banks who were at the top of a Ponzi scheme that lent vast amounts of money to Irish banks who in turn lent vast amounts of money to developers who were selling houses in Ballygobackwards that cost more than a penthouse in Berlin. What was Frau Merkel and her regulatory authorities in Germany and Brussells doing while this madness was going on? Answer? Promoting it with crazy cheap interest rates. So Bono. Perhaps if you had used your opportunity to address these elites, to point that out to Frau Merkel and co, you might have gotten better headlines.
