Memorandum officially submitted to Indian and Pakistani Prime Ministers by JKNIA Jammu Kashmir National Independence Alliance E-mail: jkniauk@gmail Memorandum submitted to Prime Minister of India, Mr Narendra Modi, and Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr Nawaz Sharif through their respective High Commissions in England. Dated: 25 October 2014 Our Ref: JKNIA/1025/2014 Dear Sirs Re: Give Peace a Chance in Jammu Kashmir Jammu Kashmir National Independence Alliance, which is an alliance of Kashmiri nationalist parties unanimously: 1. Declare that the former Princely State of Jammu and Kashmir is forcibly divided and occupied; and people of Jammu and Kashmir State are suffering on both sides of the divide. 2. Emphasize that the Kashmir dispute is not a territorial dispute between India and Pakistan; therefore, it could not be resolved bilaterally. People of Jammu and Kashmir are the principal party to this dispute and they must be part of the peace process; 3. Express serious concern about military clashes on Line of Control between armed forces of India and Pakistan in which people of the divided State are the main victims. Already tens of thousands of innocent people have been uprooted from their homes; dozens have lost their lives and hundreds are injured. 4. Assert that there is no military solution to the Kashmir conflict and dialogue is the only way forward; and in order to support the dialogue and peace process among all three parties to the dispute, politics of gun, fear and intimidation must end. 5. Request both India and Pakistan to respect fundamental human right of all citizens of Jammu and Kashmir, and curb activities of those who promote violence, extremism and religious intolerance. 6. Urge both governments to regard the Kashmir conflict as a human issue, because families are divided since 1947, and people continue to suffer. We request both governments to make travelling easier by allowing citizens of Jammu and Kashmir to travel on the State Subject certificate. 7. Demand both governments to open all traditional routes that people of the divided State can interact and socialise with each other to promote peace, understanding and tolerance. Signed by:
