Memory lane: the days when I had a little GTO They called my model of Pontiac the GTO Goat RamAir IIII and for a good reason! 455 big block, Rochester 4 barrel double pumper, turbo 400 automatic, posi-track 12 bolt rear end 4:11 gears yeah baby I miss that beast! You know I only just sold it in 2003... I bought it 1983 when I just turned 16.... My first car!!! Oh the memories of motors and tyres and chicks and rednecks and pedal to the medal, quarter miles burnouts and a lot of thing that I just dont recall for some unknown reason ;) 8 track cassettes I had three deep purple smoke on the water, pink Floyd dark side of the moon and led zep houses of holly For all you rev heads heres a bit of history on the GTO: The GTO was the brainchild of Pontiac engineer Russell Gee, an engine specialist; Bill Collins, a chassis engineer; and Pontiac chief engineer John DeLorean. In early 1963, General Motors management issued an edict banning divisions from involvement in auto racing. This followed the 1957 voluntary ban on automobile racing that was instituted by the Automobile Manufacturers Association.[4] By the early 1960s, Pontiacs advertising and marketing approach was heavily based on performance, and racing was an important component of that strategy. With GMs ban on factory-sponsored racing, Pontiacs young, visionary management turned its attention to emphasizing street performance. Yes and not long after John DeLorean went on his own and developed the famouse time machine and later got arrested for Cocaine... Something about the 60 and 70s that will never be repeated. Like the music those days was music. Not sure what I hear on the radio these days, it is certainly not music... But thats just my opinion ;) youtu.be/xWG-6iBqtKY
