Mensaje Carlo Rodriguez, candidato a Presidente, capítulo de la ACM del departamento de CCOM. Hey everyone, my name is Carlo I. Rodriguez Penney, a 6th year student doing a double major in Computer Science and English Literature and am also Vice President of the AECC, and now I’m running for Presidency of ACM. Asides from being a student, I also work at Batú Games, along with Gabriel Casillas and Roberto Feliú, as a game designer/programmer. Now most of you probably think of me as merely the guy who knows about gaming and whatnot, and quite frankly, it’s not too far from the mark. I agree that most of my contacts are from the video game industry and my primary use of what I’ve learned of computer science is for video game development; however, that does not make me any less qualified to become President of the ACM than any other candidate. As of right now, based on my contacts alone, I can only offer video game development workshops/talks and contacts to industry professionals from big and small companies, but with the help of its members and ACM HQ, we will be able to get a more variety of workshops and talks going on . If chosen as President of ACM, I will ensure to establish a good relationship between our chapter and ACM HQ in order to be constantly updated for upcoming internships, job openings, and many other opportunities for students. I will also inquire in regards to the resources they could provide for talks, workshops, and if possible, job fairs. Furthermore, throughout my run as President, I’d like to ask you, the students of CCOM, what talks or workshops you’d like to have done, and I’ll do my best to make it happen, such as a robotics workshop, a talk of parallel computing, or workshops on programming languages not touched upon throughout the curriculum. Asides from that, I intend to raise awareness of the field of Computer Science to several high schools with the help of Include and AECC, and would like to collaborate with the department to get small mini projects up and running, for example, building websites, apps, and etc. for the students and by the students. Also, if possible, try to get Startup Afterhours more involved with our activities (and vice versa), whether it be by presenting a project that have completed to the students or simply attending an activity of ours. Finally, at the end of the semester, we will host a Hackathon for anybody interested in participating, once again, this can only be done with the help of Include and AECC. And to end it all, have a banquet between the whole department, where the students can get together and there will be a brief presentation showing a summary of the achievements of the students throughout the semester. I hope that between all of us, we will be able to show the world what the students of CCOM of UPRRP are capable of. This way, I can help all of you achieve your goals, and prepare you for the academic and professional life. Thank you all for taking your time to read my speech and have a good week.
