Mental illness seems to be something that is over-glorified in our society along with media. Do you actually understand what its like to feel sick, but its not your body-its your brain? - Mental illness is NOT glamorous, and typically someone who is suffering from a mental illness or multiple mental illnesses will not openly talk about it, especially to people they dont know. - Mental illness is spending the entire day in crippling sadness and shame but having no idea why. - Mental illness is dealing with the fact that at any given time, your brain and body can send you into fight or flight mode and you will panic for absolutely no reason. - Mental illness is remembering to take all the right medicine at all the right times or being worried youll lose your mind and do something insane like take sleeping pills with a few shots of whiskey or drive with no hands or lay in your bathtub in a ball for hours. - Mental illness is being told that everything will be okay by everyone you know. Its not going to be okay. Im going to have to live with this forever, and you dont, so dont patronise me. Tell me, Youre strong enough to make a life worth living. Because Im not okay. Its not okay. - Mental illness is missing out on a really cool party or fun event because you couldnt possibly make it through several hours of socialisation with strangers. - Mental illness is the constant lie of, no, Im fine, really...because thats easier than explaining that you feel like your whole world is burning right in front of you and youre holding the lighter. - Mental illness is the shame that you dont think/feel/act the way youre supposed to, and that stresses out everyone you know. - Mental illness is pushing away people you love, because youre convinced you dont deserve them. - Mental illness is a constant battle between how you know you should feel, and how you do feel. - Mental illness is the mistake that when you have a good few weeks, or few days, that everything is actually going to be okay from now on. It isnt. You stumble right back into the bad days and sometimes forget that there were ever good ones to begin with. - Mental illness is being able to be strong in nearly any situation, because you know that no matter what life throws at you, youve made it this far. I suffer from many medical issues and mental illness is prominent in my life. Im not okay, but Im strong, and thats enough for now.
