Merry Christmas! Spending time with family was just what the doctor ordered for me and the 18 year old. For 52 years, my family on my moms side gathers on Christmas Eve for an evening of food, Christmas carols, reflection and gift giving. At one point, my aunt reads the story of Jesus birth from the book of Luke to all of the kids. We even sing Happy Birthday to Him. Well, yesterday was especially hard for Michael. He was very down and quiet the whole day. He really missed his grandmother, you see. Christmas was their thing. Theyd decorate the tree and house together, happily bickering the whole time. Theyd spend quality time together. So for the first time since she passed, Michael was outwardly grieving. I was, too. But, we got ourselves together and joined our family, anyway. Not just because thats what mom would want, but because we needed it. And it worked! The laughter, the off-key, off-tempo singing, the reminiscing, and the mostly the love healed our spirits. In the car on the way home, Michael said Im so glad we did this! I feel so much better! And with those words, my Christmas enthusiasm returned with a vengeance! Merry Christmas, everybody!
