Merry Christmas everyone, as Slade once said. A heartfelt thanks - TopicsExpress

Merry Christmas everyone, as Slade once said. A heartfelt thanks to all of you for the support youve shown over the year, and all your kind comments and messages. I read every one of them and really appreciate the fact that you make the effort to contact me with your thoughts. So its been a good year for me. I wrote Dead Mans Gift and The Final Minute and, after a little bit of a break (which has been lovely), Im back onto the next project. Im going to be starting a novella as soon as the holidays are over for digital publication in May. Its going to be something of a whodunnit with plenty of cliffhangers, and Im hoping Im going to have a lot of fun writing it. Then, after that, its on to the next book. Ive got a beginning, middle and end worked out already. Its going to be a very fast-paced multi viewpoint story set over one day, and Im very very excited about the prospect of getting to work on it. So all in all, theres plenty to keep me busy, which means Im going to make the best of this Christmas period, with plenty of eating and drinking and merriment. In the meantime, I also wanted to share my book, TV and movie highlights of the year. The best book I read by far this year was I am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes- an amazing 900 page thriller that I simply couldnt put down. It was a truly stunning story which, to be brutally honest, I really wish Id written myself! Anyway, I recommend it highly. TV-wise, I really enjoyed Line of Duty and, of course, Game of Thrones, although I found that The Walking Dead, a previous favourite, went off the boil a bit. I also discovered Modern Family, a fantastic comedy that I watch with my youngest daughter when we have the time (its nice now and again to enjoy a programme in which there are no violent deaths!). In terms of movies, the truly great ones I did watch this year were the old favourites like The Godfather and Casino, although I have to admit I did enjoy American Hustle, which shot along at a real pace, and had a great ending that I didnt see coming at all. The movie that really stayed with me, though was End of Watch with Jake Gyllenhaal- a dark, brooding LA cop thriller that was actually released in 2012. It gave what felt like a truly authentic view of what policework is like in rundown areas of big American cities and, though bleak and almost unwatchable in parts, was also very uplifting. So those were my highlights. What were yours?
