Merry pier fishing report: Spanish Mackerel pass by the end of - TopicsExpress

Merry pier fishing report: Spanish Mackerel pass by the end of our dock quite often. When they do come through, you can catch a half dozen in 30 minutes. Any fast moving lure or spoon will get the job done. The Mangrove Snapper bite is just picking up. Fish sizes from 8-14 inches. The warmer the water gets the more snapper will show up. Live shrimp under the dock work well. When the bait does show up the Mackerel and Snapper bite will take off. There are still some Sheepshead eating off the pilings. Best baits are fiddler crabs, shrimp or sand fleas. A few Flounder are still around but usually very small. Bounce a jig off the bottom and cover a lot of ground. We are still getting the occasional over slot (27+ inch) Redfish and nice keeper Black Drum. They hang out under the dock and will pick up any live or dead bait from the bottom. Quite a few snook are hanging under the dock. All sizes 20 inches to 40+. Snook season is closed so release them in good shape. Be respectful. A few Gag Grouper also under the dock. They are also out of season but fun to catch and release. There is still no bait at our dock as of lately. It should be showing up soon as the water warms. Kingfish are migrating south through our area and can be caught right off our beaches trolling spoons or live bait. Tarpon have started to show up in the passes and beaches. They will be here all summer and into fall. Be respectful of all fish. If not within the legal sizes please release them in a timely manner. It is your responsibility to know the Florida fish limits, if unsure please ask us at the pier and we will be happy to help you out. Thanks, Merry Pier
