Meryls pretty close to the age here that Mom was when a Polish Jew tried to pick her up at the airport on New Years Eve because she looked like the star & he was looking for a good time. Mom was tired enough after zone conferences to think he just needed a place to stay & invited him over. A moment later, he was surprised & dismayed to meet her husband & learn he would be sleeping at a Mormon mission home. What followed was probably his most boring New Years Eve ever--watching a video with a married couple & their three girls. He tried to mix it up by toasting the new year on the hour every hour--because it had to be a new year somewhere, and seeing as we didnt drink, he couldnt let the whole bottle of wine hed brought go to waste... The guy ended up drop-dead drunk. That was New Years Eve of 86, I think. Ah, yes. Good times in Helsinki.
