Message: Feeding Frenzy or Desert the Table? John 6:41-64 Growth Group Homework October 5, 2014 Getting to know you: a). In N Out hamburger has a very small menu. Why do you think they are so selective? In a world of options, how do they get away with this? If you could add something to their menu, what would it be? b). In John 6:41-64, count the number of times Jesus refers to himself as “bread.” What did you come up with? Why do you think Jesus repeats himself so many times? 1. Re-Read John 6:42 and John 6:51, 60-61 and 66. What is the response of the crowd and many of the disciples to Jesus’ claims? 2. What do you think is the most shocking thing that Jesus said to the crowds? 3. The Israelites were given manna to eat while they wandered in the wilderness for 40 years. Their wandering came about from disobedience to the commands of God and their lack of faith. In our John 6 text, Jesus is trying to help His disciples to keep from wandering spiritually but they grumble too. He uses strong words. He blows some things up in an attempt to give them a break through. What faulty thinking is he trying to blow up in the crowds? Have you ever experienced God and/or His Word purposely blow something up in your life so He could build you up better than you were before? Share. 4. Read verse 66 again. Was this response a sign of failure for Jesus? Why or why not? 5. Who in your OIKOS needs to come back to the table of the bread of life?
