Message from Paul Milo from Cricket Australia in relation to recent Opens Indoor Championships & the coverage etc. Hi all, Thank you all for your assistance (whether big or small) in helping to make the Open Championships a success. Whilst with every event there are always things that can be improved upon and we welcome your feedback and will receive feedback from players / officials too, from my perspective the event was a success, particularly in one important area - increased profile. 2013 Saw around 3,000 people tuning in to the live streaming of the event & no indoor cricket twitter engagement. The event gained some minimal support from Cricket Australia facebook and twitter and no promotion to MyCricket facebook members. For the live streaming, commentators were not visible on the live stream and could not see the action directly - rather it was commentated on from watching a tv screen. The coverage also often dropped out due to limited bandwidth availability resulting in a mixed user experience. 2014 Saw around 18,000 people tuning in the live streaming of the event (from around 30,000 page views), greatly helped by a significant social media engagement with interested followers via the new CA Indoor twitter account and various social media forums. Several CA Facebook posts to 3 million+ followers, several CA tweets to 300k+ followers and the MyCricket facebooks messages to over 100k each time, were also supported by some large organisations sharing / linking these social media messages to greatly expand this reach. This includes the work that most of you assisted with in sharing / supporting / sending your own messages via social media / emails etc. - so thank you. The local centre at Werribee also managed to receive 35,000 facebook hits due to their extensive promotional work. This was complimented with the promotional posters that many local centres displayed, promotion in each of the tournament programs and the advertising that CA arranged through ooh! Media via the digital screens in many indoor centres. The investment breakdown from CA was around $23k: ... $18k - live streaming production, $2.5k - upgrading of Werribee signalling, $2k advertising in centres through ooh! Media & $500 for flyers development. As background, the breakdown of the viewership from the nearest city came from - Melbourne (32.4%), Brisbane (20.2%), Sydney (15.5%), Perth (5.6%), Adelaide (5.3%), ACT (3.1%), Rest of Australia (1%) - in order Hobart, Cairns, Launceston, Gold Coast, Newcastle, Toowoomba & Murray Bridge, Overseas (3.1%) - in order of most watched countries - UK, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand, Canada, Singapore, Romania, Germany & Unknown / other overseas countries (13.8%) mostly overseas. This is a tremendous result that we should all take pleasure in. Given the quality of the production helped through the quality of the matches and commentators, I believe that the overwhelming majority of those who tuned in, would watch another indoor event. It gives us a solid platform to significantly grow this much further though next year with everyone embracing and using our collective promotional reach at national, state, centre, player and personal levels. The collective approach will definitely help to place indoor cricket more front of mind for more Australians to ultimately help grow participation. I have thanked all relevant internal CA reps who helped to achieve these numbers and I would ask you to thank any local state / centre representatives who assisted. Thanks again. Regards. Paul
