Message from the Editor Benzi update: Benzi had his knee operation on Tuesday. The vet finished at 17:30 and Benzi began to come round soon after, we took him home at 19:30 and he spent the next 5 hours in and out of sleep. `i constructed a confined area for him in the living room and moved him in there. half hour later around 1am I Saw Benzi stir and get to his feet. He stood there for a good 20 minutes with a big grin on his face I could tell that he felt the difference with his right rear knee now rearranged with the help of three titanium implants screwed into his bones to direct the pulling force of the tendon over the knee cap and to act in place of the lost tendon in helping to keep the knee stable. I carried Benzi down the stairs of the flat and over the road to the park and stood him there for about 10 mins. He had his dressing on so couldnt walk but just kept grinning all the time when he looked at his leg. He is banned from stairs and jumping and running for the next 8 weeks as this could put undue stress on the fixings of the implants which could cause fractures in the bones that they are screwed into if the bone hasnt had time to grow into and cement the implants firmly into place. Vets orders are to walk Benzi for 5 minutes a day for the first 2 weeks building up slowly to around 20 minutes by week 8. Two days after the operation Benzi had to go for a check up and to get his dressings removed. The Vet was quite shocked to see how well Benzi was walking with his dressing off after just two days. Its amazing how high the pain threshold is in dogs! Benzi has been running around for the last three weeks with a bit of a limp now and then but with a snapped Cruciate ligament! You wouldnt see Wayne Rooney doing that! So we are on Saturday, day 5 and start of the premier league season :-) and Benzi is doing well. I must also mention how good lucky has been in keeping him company and amused.
