Message from the heart of Noel Altaha, Apache Nation to all who care!!!! LS Wow! A writer for YAHOO referenced me in an article covering the issue of dressing as a Native American for Halloween for children, thank you for covering this angle as a parent Shine and thank you for at least seeing my point. I do not speak for all Native people and I am using my personal life experiences and years of research to articulate my views. I agree with Shine, this is a debate/conversation worth having. MUST READ!! Please share! I must say I am human and I am very sad by the negative comments, this is not about being ultra sensitive and super offended. I am not telling anyone how to act I am one person speaking my views that hopefully will plant a seed of being aware of our connection to one another and the Earth. When we hurt one another it vibrates through the world and the negative energy is created, when we hurt the land the energy is created and the vicious cycle continues. Through compassion and mindfulness and sincere respect we can we all heal. This is my take, it is not about race, it is about speaking out when someone is being disrespected. I know when people get defensive about being called out when they may be hurting someone there is little learning going on. Those of you (and I know you are out there) will truly understand what this is about, I am not attacking Halloween (I love it) I am using this opportunity as a vehicle to address the underlying issues. There is historical trauma and intergenerational trauma occurring to Indigenous peoples here and across the globe, it can end now with individuals collectively being mindful, compassionate and respectful. I am not saying it will be easy I am saying it is a challenge worth considering. I get that I cant make everyone happy, that was never my intention. I am aware of those hiding behind pseudo names to attack and attack and attack. I am using the teaching of my ancestors to be patient with the ignorant. To be loving towards the difficult. Is that not what Jesus said? His Holiness the Dalai Lama encourages us to befriend those who hate us. Ghandi said the same right? Well my grandmas and mentors have taught me this through their stories and in our oral tradition passed down from generations. My people (not all but some) are still healing from historical trauma of colonial contact. It is not about getting over it I think it is more than that. Our ancestors have made decisions that have impacted us and our decisions will impact future generations. Be apart of the change to create healing calming energy for the land and one another. I am not a radical, or an extremist, or an activist, I am an Apache woman raised to be an Apache woman. (Ayeeeee) that is worth fighting peacefully for. shine.yahoo/parenting/ever-okay-kid-dress-another-ethnicity-halloween-151300585.html?bcmt_s=p&bcmt=1382920808209-ddfca144-8a87-43e6-9b96-ce9275c8395d&_profileOut=comment#ugccmt-container
