Free Taster session for local community to celebrate the investment Sport England announces £40 million to extend Inspired Facility Fund to 2017 Mexborough Miners’ Welfare & Recreation Ground has secured Olympic legacy funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund. Sport England today revealed that more than 1,300 local sports projects across the country have now received National Lottery Funding through Inspired Facilities, part of its Olympic and Paralympic legacy programme. PAVILION REFURBISHMENT PROJECT Mexborough Miners’ Welfare & Recreation Ground has secured £48,200 of National Lottery funding to refurbish the existing Pavilion changing rooms, with new showers, boilers, plumbing, non-slip flooring, rewiring and redecoration. The aim is to upgrade the facility to encourage the long term playing of sport in Mexborough. To celebrate the award, local people are being invited to a free taster session at Mexborough Athletic Sports Grounds, New Oxford Road on Friday 16th August 2013 between 530pm and 7pm to try out one of the sports held on the grounds. Sport England’s Chairman, Nick Bitel , said: “A year on from the Olympics, this National Lottery investment is helping us deliver a lasting sporting legacy in Mexborough. With investment now on offer from our Inspired Facilities Fund until 2017, we look forward to supporting many more sports clubs in the Yorkshire & Humberside region who play such a vital role in grassroots sport.” Chair of Trustees Bob Lamb said “This is great news for sports facilities in Mexborough and hopefully is a start for future development of the grounds. Football and Cricket are both important sports in this town and with vibrant and committed individuals working hard to raise the profile of the club and its sports we aim to ensure that those using the facilities have the best on offer.” Local MP Ed Milliband said, “……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………...” Mexborough Miners’ Welfare & Recreation Ground is one of over 300 projects across England receiving lottery investment from the fourth round of the Inspired Facilities fund and one of more than 1,300 to benefit overall. Many more communities are now set to benefit from the hugely popular fund, after Sport England today announced that it was extending Inspired Facilities until 2017, with an additional £40 million of National Lottery funding to invest.
