Mexican restaurants . Checked out 2 Mexican restaurants over the past week (La Mexicana in Ampang and Fresca Mexican Kitchen in Gardens, MidValley) to compare against Las Carretas. [note the bias : 1 visit to La Mexicana, 1 visit to Fresca, 100 visits to Las Carretas]. Analysis done specially for Red Rebana. . La Mexicana They say it is the most authentic mexican restaurant in town. I found the menu limited and not really to my taste. It has many pork dishes - if you like pork, then this is the place for you. Not for me. . It had an interesting array of margaritas - tamarind, passion fruit, etc. Price - Meal for 4 pax came to about RM 400. Seems to cater mainly for expats. . Fresca The menu has more extensive than La Mexicana. There were many types of interesting tachos. Salads and soups were good too. Good choice of margaritas including the jalapeno margarita. No pork. Price - meal for 4 pax came to about RM 300. . Conclusion. I will stick to Las Carretas. Fresca is a close second (but 1st choice for tachos). Red, do try out Fresca. Margarita wise, Las Carretas El Presidente tops the list.
