Mexico City, Day 6 Observations: 1) As I play the new MØ album, the sun steams in through the giant glass windows. Im surrounding by all kinds of succulents, large and small, and I can feel a pleasant breeze hit my skin. Its easy to say its one of those days where the weather is perfect, where you feel so comfortable in your own skin. 2) Learned a new phrase today, courtesy of Carlos Oriordan. Mal del puerco, aka that feeling of exhaustion after a large lunch (which usually happens around 3 PM). No, I didnt have pork, but oh my were those quesadillas (with a HEAPING amount of guacamole) filling. 3) Architecture in Mexico City is some of the amazing Ive had a pleasure of witnessing. Of course, the ancient stuff is great. All of the ruins, the temples, the Spanish churches, but the newer crop of architecture is equally exciting. Museo Jumex, for instance, is easily one of the best designed museum spaces Ive had the pleasure of interacting with in a while. It felt at ease in its environment, but the interior and exterior was still distinctive. The geometric lines of the space are really used well in the curation of exhibits. 4) Im that weird American who decided to come alone to Mexico City of all places in the country. But why arent you going to the other American places? guys have asked me. Well, because if I wanted to go an Americanized place, Id just buy a bus ticket to the Jersey shore or something. 5) Even with the language barrier, Ive found the pace and atmosphere of the city to be so inviting, and so me. Its one of the few cities (outside of San Francisco, New York or Montreal) where Ive instantly thought: wow, this city makes sense, or it represents some fundamental aspect of myself.
