Michael James Kott. Remember that name. A recent post by Rushad - TopicsExpress

Michael James Kott. Remember that name. A recent post by Rushad Eggleston mentioning him as an inspiration got me thinking about Kott and his place in history. The 70s were wild times for old-time music, as thats when the real rebirth began. Everyone who was anyone migrated down south, especially the Galax and Mt. Airy scenes. Michael played cello, with a strap, and did some amazing, ground-breaking work with the Plank Road String Band, one of the seminal 4 bands back then. (Highwoods and Plank Road down south, Horseflies and Correctones in Ithaca.) The original original, Kott played cello while skateboarding, amongst other strange things. If you think how hugely influential Rushads work was with Crooked Still (Everyone in the conservatories in Boston wanted to sound just like him, and how every band needed a cello all of a sudden) then Mr. Kott is indeed the wellspring of all the alternative cello playing we hear today. Heres the only audio I can find of him. Sound familiar? https://youtube/watch?v=xeoCfvTS5pQ
