Michael Owen backs Liverpools title bid while Jamie Carragher warns of Chelsea threat Brendan Rodgers men are preparing for their weekend title showdown with Manchester City but plans for next season are already under way Fans finally got a glimpse of the strip that Brendan Rodgers side will be wearing when they return to European competition next season - the only question now is whether they wear it as champions or runners up. The new look Reds know that a win against their main title rivals Manchester City on Sunday will put them in pole position to win their first league title since 1990, but Rodgers will have to keep one eye on signing new players in the summer to cope with the extra fixtures. Michael Owen is backing his former club to land the title. The ex-Liverpool striker, who found the net over 100 times for the club, reckons it would be the perfect reward for their blend of attacking, exciting football this season. “My heart says Liverpool and I hope they win it. But regardless if they do, it’s great to see them back at the top of their game again. It’s great to see Anfield rocking.” He is quoted by the Daily Star. “Lots of teams have got good players but Brendan Rodgers has managed to tweak formations and get the best out of them. “Not many teams go with two strikers up front for fear of having a weakened midfield. Half the time they put a striker out on the left wing in a position they don’t really enjoy or are not used to.” Former Anfield favourite Jamie Carragher sounded a note of caution, though. The ex-Liverpool defender has warned his old side fans not to forget about Chelsea as they could still turn their title dreams into a nightmare when they travel to Anfield in a couple of weeks. “I think this game could settle the title race but Chelsea do have a little say in it with them coming to Anfield, Carragher told sqwawka “If City win it’s going to be difficult for anyone else. If Liverpool win, Chelsea have still got to come to Anfield and if City beat Liverpool and Chelsea win later on Sunday against Swansea they’d be right back in it as well. “Chelsea have got a big say in the title because they play Liverpool. Jose Mourinho doesn’t lose many big games so that game between Chelsea and Liverpool is going to be difficult for both sides.
