Michael Wayne Elkins 03/29/1952-11/22/2014. As some of yall know my dad passed away on Saturday. He passed on the way to the hospital we didnt even get to say goodbye. To the very end he didnt want the attention. He went the way he wanted it I guess. But I want to tell you a little bit more about him. I want to share with yall a little bit. Not many people know my foundation. Not many people know the framework for my last name Elkins. My dad was Michael Wayne Elkins. Grew up in Old Olga. Graduated from Alva high school and served in the Navy. The old timers will tell you he and his friends were some of the original hell raisers in the Homestead Bar when it was like walking into the movie Tombstone every night haha. But my dads life was the real story of the backroads life. A long dirt road separated us from the outside world growing up. He taught me a lot about hard work. Carrying those tie beam clamps during the summer on my dads construction jobs has a tendency to do that. At home the Hogs, dogs and chickens had to be fed before school every morning and sundown. Yes my dad taught me my work ethic. My drive. When I was 11 years old, me and my dad together we rebuilt our own roof on our house restored from the truss up. That work ethic transcended into helping me achieve my goal to play college football. My dad taught me how to shoot and how to fish. My dad has this little camouflage jon boat and weve caught enough fish when I was growing up to fill that thing 10 times. Im going to miss that. I wish we could have had one more run at it. My dad has made his mistakes too but that too also taught me in ways to help me be a better dad. I wish I could tell you thank you. I love you Dad. Dont catch them all before I get there.
