Michelles Top 7 Ways The Gov’t Could Control How You Eat: #1. Dont Trust Parents to Make Menu Choices At a 2010 signing ceremony for the “Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act”-- a law that subsidizes and regulates what children eat before school, at lunch, after school, and during summer vacations in federally funded school-based feeding programs -- First Lady Michelle Obama said of deciding what American children should eat: “We can’t just leave it up to the parents. #2. Indoctrinate The Children Early In October of 2011, Michelle Obama said that the government can affect who kids “will be forever” if it can shape their habits and preferences during the large part of the day they are at school. Mrs. Obama was speaking at a White House reception to honor schools that met the goals of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s HealthierUS School Challenge (HUSSC). The program has since been rolled into Mrs. Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative. #3. Alter School Textbooks Last year, First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative was praising textbook publishers for “swapping out cupcakes for apples in math problems,” in a campaign to incorporate health information into the learning resources for kids. “Today at the White House, we celebrated a group of educational publishers on their development of voluntary guidance to incorporate health information into textbooks and other learning materials,” Let’s Move! said in a blog post entitled, “Cookies 2 Carrots.” “Publishers are making simple changes, like swapping out cupcakes for apples in math problems.” #4. Use Online Courses to Teach People to Steer Clear Of the Cookie Aisle As part of her anti-obesity Lets Move campaign, First Lady Michelle Obama was the guest editor of iVillage, presenting a brief online course in 2012: “Supermarket Shopping 101.” The course provides novice shoppers with tips such as “steer clear of the cookie, snack and soda aisle.” #5. Create New Labeling for Moms Who are Confused and Bewildered, by Grocery Shopping Apparently its not the price of the groceries, but the nutrition labels on food packages that make grocery shopping such a difficult and trying experience for the moms of America. In pitching new, improved nutrition labels at the White House this February, Michelle Obama tried to identify with women who do the grocery shopping for their families. This stream of questions and worries running through your head when all you really wanted to know was, should I be eating this or not? Is this good for my kids or not? And if it is healthy, how much of it should I be eating?” Mrs. Obama said. “But unless you had a thesaurus, a calculator, a microscope, or a degree in nutrition, you were out of luck. So you felt defeated, and you just gave up and went back to buying the same stuff you always buy.” #6. Make Food Companies Entirely Rethink the Products They Offer Michelle Obama is urging the nations largest food companies to “step it up” and put less sugar, fat and salt in foods. In 2010 Mrs. Obama asked the companies, gathered at a meeting of the Grocery Manufacturers Association, to step it up” not only when it comes to ingredients but also in the marketing of foods. We need you not to just tweak around the edges but entirely rethink the products you are offering, the information that you provide about these products, and how you market those products to our children, she said. #7. Have Supermarkets Teach Consumers How to Cook and What to Eat More than just stocking shelves with food, the First Lady says, grocery stores could distribute instructions on how to cook. “Can we work with supermarkets to do more to distribute recipes on how to cook, and do demonstrations?” Michelle Obama asked at The Partnership for a Healthier America’s Building a Healthier Future Summit last week. - See more at: cnsnews/mrctv-blog/eric-scheiner/michelle-obamas-7-ways-gov-t-could-control-how-you-eat?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=Marketing&utm_term=Facebook&utm_content=Facebook&utm_campaign=MichelleObamaControl#sthash.TNgki62S.dpuf
