Microsociology!!! The resent excessive rain fall in Freetown prompt this medium to go into one on one assessment on the effect of the rains at one of the slum community call Mabella. This happen On Tuesday the 6th this month, the observation proves vulnerability and devastation cause by the rains. It is another sad history for the community, has several social cases mount up: flooding, pneumonia, diarrhea and cholera make the news. According to one practicing nurse, and also a member of the community name, Mariatu S. Kamara, who works at the Thirty-four government hospital, told this medium that, due to the vulnerable of the community, rains fall is a serious threat to the community as health becomes the bone of contention. Certainly, the nurse says “Between mid-July and early August this year, uncountable kids were brought to me for pneumonia, diarrhea and cholera for treatment”. However, based on the findings, young people and the kids mostly suffered the most. The nurse further said that diseases like this are not strange here; they are only strange to newborn babies. Communities like this needs critical attention and social security mentions for the safety of the unborn and the newborns. I think people in my profession needs to show up and do more to help explain why prevention, intervention and general concern is necessary for vulnerable societies, and this is why I blog.
