Mid Season Championship Tonight at I44 Riverside Speedway Cody Morris I-44 Riverside Speedway Official Release As a couple dozen stars of the Lucas Oil POWRi West Midget Series converge on southwest Oklahoma Citys raging fast 1/5th mile, the five weekly mini sprint classes celebrate a special of their own as well, the first ever Mid Season Championship in speedway history. The first ever I-44 Riverside Speedway Champions Cup consists of 22 nights of point races, and after tonight we are halfway there! That we havent had a single rainout yet this season, is far from a jynx - as Mother Nature kind of owed us after last years tornado nixed over 10 of them. Thanks for the kick back Mum! Lawtons Brandon Boggs will lock up the Non Wing Mid Season title when he simply enters the Fliptastic Gymnastics #2B in his NW heat race action. El Renos reigning Turf Tire champ Tony Penick stepped up and chased Boggs amicably until suffering an engine woe in R9. By the way race fans, you will come to see this abbreviation quite often. That stands for Round 9, and if you P15 that stands for 15th place. If you see a P40 - well thats just Euless, Texan racer Aaron Dromgoole. Newcastles 2012 Non Wing champ Derrick McBride enters Non Wing points in 2nd, but with a missing a key early round made a huge difference. So with Boggs as your likely Non Wing Mid Season Champ, he is also your A Class point leader coming into the night. But the young University of Oklahoma Freshman has his work cut out for him in his quest to double Mid Season titles. Boggs enters just 80 points to the good of reigning A Class champ Blake Dacus and Derrick McBride. That pair are technically third and fourth, but P2 in A Class points is Choctaws Bobby Springer, and Springer has donned the big wing to challenge nationwide Outlaws at Southern Illinois Raceways Highbanks Hustle. Good luck Bobby! So Boggs leads Dacus ad McBride by 80 markers with one event left to decide, but El Renos Blake Dewberry has not been eliminated just yet. In fact, Dewberry lit up last weeks A Class action in one of the best feature wins of the season. While chances are low that the lead trio will finish far enough back, Dewberry will be primed to deliver another strong performance in the All American Pizza #29d. Bethanys Matt Moore enters Mid Season title night with a 65 point edge over 2012 Restricted champ Tanner Conn. Spoiler alert, with Conn on vacation in east of the Mississippi, Moore is a lock for the first ever Restricted Mid Season Championship. Moore has been on an absolute tear this year, acing three of the 10 Champions Cup point nights to this point, as well as earning Restricted rights in the Inaugural Red Dirt Nationals. El Renos Jeremy Penick has also sealed up more hardward for Penick Family Racing. Jeremy was a 2012 Turf Tire champ, and this season has two Champions Cup wins to his credit in R1 and R8. Dylan Pendergrass enters as Junior Sprint leader looking to add more hardware for Lawton, Oklahoma. Dylan swept Red Dirt Nationals and the first two CC events of the season. Pendergrass holds a 70 point edge over Calera, Oklahomas Ryder Laplante. Ryder earned the first win of his racing career in R6 and swiftly followed it up with another score in R9. Chickashas Brant Woods enters Mid Season title night third, and while out of contention for the Mid Season title, showed last week that he is ready for his first career win as he threatened Chris Wells for victory like few have this season. A Bridge Creek native and Team Green favorite, Wells has aced 5 of 7 events he has competed in this season. But consistency nets championships, and that battle is all Pendergrass and Laplante tonight. The Lucas Oil POWRi West Midget Series headline tonights first ever I-44 Riverside Mid Season Championship. Gates open at 4pm, hot laps at 6pm, with opening ceremony at 7pm.
