Midday work ban: 24 firms fined for violation JEDDAH: SULTAN AL-TAMIMI Published — Tuesday 20 August 2013 The Labor Ministry has fined 24 businesses, including contractors, for violating the country’s midday work ban during the summer season, said Faisal Al-Otaibi, general director of inspection at the ministry. He said the percentage of companies and businesses that have responded positively to the mandatory midday work ban was higher than those who violated it. “In the past few weeks, the ministry has fined only 24 businesses out of a total of 74 which have undergone inspection,” he said, adding that the ministry would show zero tolerance toward the rule’s violators. According to Article 236 of the Labor Law, individuals and companies violating the midday work ban can be fined up to SR10,000 per violation. Violating firms can also face complete closure or closure for a month. The ministry may also impose both the fine and closure. The ministry has instructed that no employee should be asked to work under the sun from 12 to 3 p.m. from July to August to lessen their exposure to extreme sunlight. The ministry has set up a toll toll-free number, 920001173, for receiving public complaints on the issue. #sunnyxtreme
